Asymptotic Completeness for Rayleigh Scattering
It is expected that the state of an atom or molecule, initially put into an excited state with an energy below the ionization threshold, relaxes to a groundstate by spontaneous emission of photons which propagate to spatial infinity. In this paper, this picture is established for a large class of models of non-relativistic atoms and molecules coupled to the quantized radiation field, but with t...
متن کاملAsymptotic Completeness for Rayleigh Scattering
We consider an electron bound by some anharmonic external potential and coupled to the quantized radiation eld in the dipole approximation. We prove asymptotic completeness for the photon scattering. This means that an arbitrary initial state has a long time asymptotic, which consists of electron plus radiation eld in their coupled ground state and nitely many outgoing photons.
متن کاملAsymptotic Boundary Conditions for Dissipative Waves: General Theory
An outstanding issue in the computational analysis of time-dependent problems is the imposition of appropriate radiation boundary conditions at artificial boundaries. In this work we develop accurate conditions based on the asymptotic analysis of wave propagation over long ranges. Employing the method of steepest descent, we identify dominant wave groups and consider simple approximations to th...
متن کاملDissipative chaotic scattering.
We show that weak dissipation, typical in realistic situations, can have a metamorphic consequence on nonhyperbolic chaotic scattering in the sense that the physically important particle-decay law is altered, no matter how small the amount of dissipation. As a result, the previous conclusion about the unity of the fractal dimension of the set of singularities in scattering functions, a major cl...
متن کاملScattering and separators in dissipative systems.
Scattering of particlelike patterns in dissipative systems is studied, especially we focus on the issue how the input-output relation is controlled at a head-on collision in the one-dimensional(1D) space where traveling pulses interact strongly. It remains an open problem due to the large deformation of patterns at a colliding point. We found that a special type of steady or time-periodic solut...
